"Nigel has the concept of a TEM wave in my crystal reaching the end / edge of the crystal, and then seeing a nearby crystal as looking a bit like a short across the TEM wave's travel. This leads us to the idea of a force on a wire which shorts the end of a transmission line, and so stops a TEM wave from proceeding. The blocked TEM wave then pushes at the short. (Nigel later dropped this idea. - IC, 16feb01)"

Ivor - delete the above goobledegook which I NEVER came up with.  You ignore my contributions and then place your own false ideas in association with my name.  God alone knows how you define "crystal", which to me is an regular geometric structure of molecules, held in place by the transverse/LATERAL energy flow at right angles from light speed circulating energy, which is called "electrostatic force".  Since you do not have the concept of the TRANSVERSE EM WAVE, but merely use the term TEM wave to falsely represent your energy slab, which you proudly take from Heaviside, who is presumably IGNORANT of the definition of a LONGITUDINAL wave versus TRANSVERSE wave.  More likely, Heaviside was competent, and the fault in confusing Heaviside's longitudinal slab of energy with the TEM wave is yours.  Please do not blame Heaviside for your lack of grasp of what types of wave there are.  How many lectures on waves did your engineering degree at Trinity include?  Thank goodness you did not go into designing ships.
